Different Classifications of Paper for Recycling

Here is an overview of different classifications of paper for recycling

OCC

OCC or Old Corrugated Containers are the most recycled paper scrap for sale. OCC can be identified by its ridged surface, and placed between two pieces of cardboard. Paper scrap obtained from these materials is used for various applications and in the making of paper bags, postal boxes, and more.

Mixed Paper

Discarded mail, paperboard, magazines and more come under this category. Mixed paper scrap is used as secondary fiber in the production of new paper, whereas it is used as a raw-material for manufacturing non-paper products.

ONP

ONP is nothing but old Newspaper. Recycled ONP can be used in the manufacturing of different products, such as paperboard, tissue, art paper, and more. ONP must be sent to a special paper mill for shredding to obtain newspaper scraps.

High-grade De-inked Paper

High-grade paper scraps are obtained from business offices and commercial settings. This includes, letterhead, stationery, business documents, and more. When dealing with high-grade papers, they must be de-inked or undergo the ink removal procedure. This process prevents color inconsistencies and other variations.

Paper Scrap – The Recycling Process

The recycling of paper requires the following steps to obtain a premium product.

Sorting

The used papers collected are sorted and segregated depending on the type of paper. Each type is processed and treated differently; hence this step is crucial for an effective recycling process.

Shredding and Pulping

The segregated papers are shredded into small pieces and then water and other chemicals are added to separate the fibers. This results in a mushy pulp, which is further cleaned to remove any non-paper items and other contaminants.

Ink Removal

During this process, the printing ink, glue residues, and other adhesives are removed through a deeper cleaning.

Dying

After ink removal, the pulp goes through the bleaching process to add a desired color to the paper.

Drying

This is the final stage in which the obtained pulp is passed through rollers to remove excess moisture, heat is applied, and then wound into larger rolls.

OCC Waste Paper Scrap that Meets Global Market Requirements for Sale

OCC waste paper scrap is obtained from used corrugated cardboard containers used for shipping and packaging. They are made from layers of paper fibers, and can be used to produce new paper or cardboard products. The quality of the OCC waste paper is determined by its moisture content, mix of materials like plastic, and amount of non-paper contaminants. It’s crucial to select OCC paper scrap with moisture content less than 12% and other contaminants less than 0.5%

There are two types of OCC waste paper available in the market.

OCC grade 11

OCC Grade 11 refers to a specific quality grade of old corrugated containers. It includes corrugated containers that are clean, dry, and free from contaminants. They do not have wax or any moisture-resistant coatings. OCC grade 11 waste paper is the highest quality grade as it contains minimal impurities. These waste paper scraps are used in the production of new paper and cardboard products. OCC 11 waste paper price is competitive.

OCC grade 12

OCC grade 12 is similar to OCC grade 11 but with a slightly higher level of impurities. They contain small amounts of non-fiber elements, such as plastics and other materials. Due to the presence of impurities, these waste paper scraps have to undergo additional steps to remove contaminants before they can be used in the manufacturing process. OCC 12 waste paper price is lower than OCC 11.
